"Processing of information often leads to mathematical problems that are intriguing enough to inspire mathematical community. A good example of such an interaction can be found in the problem posed by Claude Shannon in his famous 1948 paper “A Mathematical Theory of Communications”. This problem addresses the issue of how to handle the errors inevitably arising in the process of communications, and has evolved into a branch of mathematics called coding theory.
