Intelligent Robotics and its Future

"Through out the 20th century we have witnessed, tremendous progresses in science and technology. The mobilization represented by the automobile technology and the computerization by the personal computer and internet technology were one of the main flow during the 20th century. The moon landing was the epic of the science and technology in 20th century. Toward the end of that century, this flow was extended to robotization represented by the robot. The robotization is possible with motorization and computerization technologies. Robot is largely divided into more structured industrial robots and unstructured intelligent robots. The industrial robots already have been revolutionized the manufacturing industries such as Automotive and semi-conductor fields. With similar phenomena such as TV, telephone, mobile phone, automobile etc. in every home, someday we expect the robot will be our companion in our future life. These particular robot, intelligent robot will be the future industry as big as automotive industry and perhaps more. In this presentation, a brief history of the robot will be illustrated and the industrial robot and intelligent robot with its background will be explained. The national vision on robot will be introduced. Applications of the intelligent robots in various areas will be discussed. Finally the research works by the Pohang Institute of Intelligent Robotics will be presented. "
