Neutron View of Biomembrane Interacting with Proteins

본문

" Cell membranes, which consist of lipid bilayers, play important roles in cells as barriers to maintain concentrations and matrices to host membrane proteins. During cellular processes such as endo- and exocytosis, cell fission and fusion, the cell membranes undergo various morphological changes governed by the interplay between protein and lipid membranes.

Neutron is an excellent tool to investigate various soft materials including biomaterials, revealing atomic and nanoscale structures, and femto, pico, nano, micro second timescale dynamics. In this talk, structures and dynamics of lipid bilayer membranes interacting with transmembrane proteins, which were investigated by small angle neutron scattering and neutron spin-echo spectroscopy, will be discussed."
