The genetic basis for a human hearing disorder
* Speaker : Cynthia Schoen ( University of Michigan Medical School, Ann Arbor)
* Place : 512 Conference room, APCTP Headquarters
* Date & Time : June 16 (Wed.) 2:30 ~ 3:30 pm
* Abstract:
Although hearing impairment is common with increasing age,
there are a number of genetic disorders that can cause deafness. I
have identified the gene responsible for an autosomal dominant
auditory neuropathy and subsequently developed an animal model to
study it. In this lecture I will discuss the anatomy of the inner ear,
the process of normal hearing, and the discovery of a novel mutation
that causes human deafness.
