* Abstract
Images are usually formed by recording many optical events, but here I present experimental results of impressing transverse image information onto a single photon and retrieving the image information from the photon with a holographic sorter. The use of a holographic sorter in quantum `ghost imaging makes it possible to extract the ghost image information using position-correlated photon pairs generated by spontaneous parametric down conversion with high confidence levels.
In addition, I study slow-/fast-light pulse propagation in a dispersive medium. I begin with a review of basic concepts of group velocity and group delay. I then present a review of current fiber-based technologies capable of producing slow-light effects with emphasis on the applicability of these technologies to telecommunications. Finally, I will give a brief summary of works from Professor Robert W. Boyds group in this field.
