" Turbulence is one of the unsolved problems in physics. A partial description of turbulence was given by Kolmogorov in 1941 and 1962 in the form of scaling relation of energy spectrum. Due to the recent progress in experimental technique and computational method, a little insight into the flow physics of turbulence has been obtained. However, a full explanation of turbulence seems to be remote.
We have been developing very refined computational method to numerically resolve fluid motion of all scales both in time and space. Using this tool, we have been able to accurately simulate turbulence and to understand physical mechanism of various turbulent flows. Particularly, we have interest in near-wall turbulence, which is important from the engineering point of view. Detailed simulation show a wide variety of flow phenomena including coherent structures and intermittent nature of fluid particle acceleration. Many simulation results and relevant meanings will be presented.
